To fix the issue you can do Check the below line. You should end the quote before comma(),
just replace
code :
scanf("%f, &period");
scanf("%f", &period);

wish help you to fix your issue not an expert on c at all. But when you go to do the second fscand() after the inner loop, won't j be equal to 3?, not 2. How does that effect the fscanf() ?

will be helpful for those in need IO buffering is a source to many problems, I would suggest that you:
Access System.in only through a Scanner (e.g. no System.in.read) Create only a single Scanner for he same stream (e.g., only first, no second)

Why is input.next() sometimes being skipped?

wish helps you Does Social Security Number contains whitespace? If it does, You can try nextLine(); method. This method returns the rest of the current line, excluding any line separator at the end.
code :
System.out.print("Social Security Number ==> ");//ask for ssn
String ssn = input.nextLine();

Some statements are skipped in C program in particular cases

To fix this issue I am working on a C application in NetBeans IDE,application is Basically a client-server model.I calculate some value based on data from Client,but during a particular case the value calculation fails. Instead of returning value as 65536 I get the value as 256. , Let's see what happens:
code :
int pckt_number = 0;     // 0
pckt_number |= 0 << 8;   // pckt_number = pckt_number | 0    --> still 0
pckt_number |= 1 << 8;   // pckt_number = pckt_number | 256  --> 256
pckt_number |= 0 << 8;   // pckt_number = pckt_number | 0    --> still 256
pckt_number |= 0;        // pckt_number = pckt_number | 0    --> still 256

may help you . With some little research, I guess that the problem comes with scanf(). scanf() reads a line without the end of line character '\n' which seems to stay in the buffer and actually red by the next statement.
alternatively you can use fgets() and sscanf() as follows:
