Why my String is returning as a blank string?(JAVA)

By : Toby Zhong

Hope that helps There are two issues:
Since strings are immutable, you must assign the result of .concat(String) to the variable if you want it to be updated. Comparing strings must be done using .equals()
code :
static String timeConversion(String s)
{
    // Expecting a string in the format "HH:MM:SSAM" or "HH:MM:SSPM"
    int hr = Integer.parseInt(s.substring(0, 2));
    String min = s.substring(3, 5);
    String sec = s.substring(6, 8);
    String ap = s.substring(8, 10);
    String res = "";
    if (ap.equals("AM")) {
        if (hr == 12) {
            res = res.concat("00" + ":" + min + ":" + sec);
        } else {
            res = res.concat(hr + ":" + min + ":" + sec);
        }
    } else if (ap.equals("PM")) {
        hr = hr + 12;
        res = res.concat(hr + ":" + min + ":" + sec);
    }
    return res;
}

How to deserialize a blank JSON string value to null for java.lang.String?

By : user3801560

To fix the issue you can do Jackson will give you null for other objects, but for String it will give empty String.
But you can use a Custom JsonDeserializer to do this:
code :
class CustomDeserializer extends JsonDeserializer<String> {

    @Override
    public String deserialize(JsonParser jsonParser, DeserializationContext context) throws IOException, JsonProcessingException {
        JsonNode node = jsonParser.readValueAsTree();
        if (node.asText().isEmpty()) {
            return null;
        }
        return node.toString();
    }

}
class EventBean {
    public Long eventId;
    public String title;

    @JsonDeserialize(using = CustomDeserializer.class)
    public String location;
}

Why is String.strip() 5 times faster than String.trim() for blank string In Java 11

wish of those help On OpenJDK 11.0.1 String.strip() (actually StringLatin1.strip()) optimizes stripping to an empty String by returning an interned String constant:
code :
public static String strip(byte[] value) {
    int left = indexOfNonWhitespace(value);
    if (left == value.length) {
        return "";
    }
return ((st > 0) || (len < value.length)) ?
        newString(value, st, len - st) : null;
return new String(Arrays.copyOfRange(val, index, index + len),
                      LATIN1);
@Warmup(iterations = 10, time = 200, timeUnit = MILLISECONDS)
@Measurement(iterations = 20, time = 500, timeUnit = MILLISECONDS)
@BenchmarkMode(Mode.Throughput)
public class MyBenchmark {

  public static final String EMPTY_STRING = "   "; // 3 whitespaces
  public static final String NOT_EMPTY_STRING = "  a "; // 3 whitespaces with a in the middle

  @Benchmark
  public void testEmptyTrim() {
    EMPTY_STRING.trim();
  }

  @Benchmark
  public void testEmptyStrip() {
    EMPTY_STRING.strip();
  }

  @Benchmark
  public void testNotEmptyTrim() {
    NOT_EMPTY_STRING.trim();
  }

  @Benchmark
  public void testNotEmptyStrip() {
    NOT_EMPTY_STRING.strip();
  }

}
Benchmark Mode Cnt Score Error Units
MyBenchmark.testEmptyStrip     thrpt  100  1887848947.416 ± 257906287.634  ops/s
MyBenchmark.testEmptyTrim      thrpt  100   206638996.217 ±  57952310.906  ops/s

IF function returning "value_if_false" as a blank string instead of a blank number

around this issue , you can do this like:
code :
=IF(AND(ISNUMBER(B17), ISNUMBER(H10)), TEXT(B17-H10, "0"), )
=IF(AND(ISNUMBER(B17), ISNUMBER(H10)), TEXT(B17-H10, "#"), )

Function returning blank string

Any of those help The reason for the returning of a blank string is that res.moveToFirst() is false (so your SQL query result was empty) and the if-block will never get run, and thus s will always keep its initial value of "".
The alternative reason could be that the expression is true, but res.getString(res.getColumnIndex("word")) returns a blank string.
