I wish this help you When you call a function from an onclick attribute, this is not set to the target element. You need to give the function a parameter, and pass this explicitly.
code :
function myFunction(el) {
  var result = $(el).prev('p');
  alert(result.text());
}
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<p> Hello there </p>
<p onclick="myFunction(this)"> Hello </p>

this one helps. I have table rows where, when hovered over, the row appears transparent (by changing the opacity level). I need text to appear over the center of the row when row is hovered. During the hover event, I change the position of a span tag to be over the row**. That works fine. The problem is that if the user hovers over the new text, the leave hover event kicks off for the row, and I get a flashing kind of effect. , You can do this:
code :
$(document).ready(function(){
  var span = $('#text');
  $('tr').hover(function () {
      $('td',this).css('opacity','0.2');
      $(this).append(span);
      span.show();
  },function () {
      $('td',this).css('opacity','1');
      span.remove();
  })
})
$(this).css("opacity", 0.2);
$('td',this).css("opacity", 0.2);

Protractor - How to find an element inside an element when sub element is also a main element somewhere else in a page

To fix the issue you can do element calls can be chained to find elements inside other elements, so your element().element() solution should work.
Alternatively, you can construct an xpath expression to reach the link inside the appropriate div:
code :
element(by.xpath('//div[@data-ng-bind-html = "feedback.html"]//a[@href = "/account"]'))
