If a reference variable is set to null does it still consume memory?

it should still fix some issue A null value can only be given to a reference type, and if I understood it right it points to address 0. In addition, if creating an instance of a class using the "new" keyword, we are allocating a memory for an object. My question is if we initialize an object to null, does it still consume memory?
code :
int[] arr = null;
int[] arr = new int[10];

Does a variable itself consume memory?

To fix the issue you can do A variable is defined as a storage location. So the question is: does a storage location consume memory?
When you say it that way it sounds obvious that the answer is yes. What else would a storage location do other than consume memory?

How much memory does a C# reference consume?

this one helps. A reference is implemented as a pointer, so in an application that runs in x86 mode (32 bit), a reference is four bytes, and in x64 mode (64 bit), a reference is eight bytes.
As the reference is just a pointer to an object, the reference is the same size regardless of what it is pointing to, or even if it doesn't point to anything at all (null).

Why does passing a static reference to a class consume memory?

seems to work fine Assuming you're compiling using ARC, because if you aren't, the whole conversion is meaningless. Your experiment wouldn't work because you put the code in a infinite loop. You tried to sleep the thread but it wouldn't work because you were also stopping the main running thread at the same time. You need to give the main run-loop a chance to run in the 10s duration.

fixed the issue. Will look into that further
In Stack(temporary memory) - For local variables memory is allocated in stack, local variables may include both primitive and reference type.

hope this fix your issue Yes, a null value takes up some space. Mostly for the name of the key (as the field is still present).
