this will help Sorry, I cant comment this "solution" just yet. This is NOT an optimal solution, but you can try this in case nothing you tried worked:
code :

To fix the issue you can do Replace the input element with a div use something like: (untested!)
HTML
code :

$('#colourPicker').ColorPicker({
  onChange: function(hsb, hex, rgb){
    $("#full").css("background-color", '#' + hex);
  }
});

Test text

$('#colourPickerText').ColorPicker({
  onChange: function(hsb, hex, rgb){
    $("#textToBeChanged").css("color", '#' + hex);
  }
});

seems to work fine You (and possibly your designer) need to familiarize yourself with color profiles. "RGB 217,114,62" does not adequately specify a color. You would need to know in which color profile that was expressed. For example, sRGB vs. Generic RGB.
When you use the eyedropper in the color picker to sample a color from the screen, you get the values in the device color profile. This will be different from a calibrated color profile like sRGB or generic.

will help you I think it will be alot of tinkering to do your specific solution. To do your solution I would do a html table containing the 40 cell, then define a color for each cell, write the code to define which one the user has selected, to later on use for what ever purpose you need.
if it was me i would use something like this: code from: http://widget.colorcodehex.com/color-picker.html
code :

HTML Color Picker

                Kendo UI Editor allows your users to edit HTML in a familiar, user-friendly way.
In this version, the Editor provides the core HTML editing engine, which includes basic text formatting, hyperlinks, lists,
                and image handling. The widget outputs identical HTML across all major browsers, follows
                accessibility standards and provides API for content manipulation.

Features include:

Text formatting & alignment

Bulleted and numbered lists

Hyperlink and image dialogs

Cross-browser support

Identical HTML output across browsers

Gracefully degrades to a
textarea
when JavaScript is turned off
