I wish this help you You can do that using request.getAttribute() & request.setAttribute() , for eg :
code :
 String uName = request.getParameter("username");
       String pass = request.getParameter("passwd");
       String rpass = request.getParameter("rpasswd");
       String email = request.getParameter("email");
       if(uName == null|| pass == null || rpass == null || email == null) {
       //here you can set attribute like any error message
       request.setAttribute("error", "Please fill all fields in form");
        request.getRequestDispatcher("yourjsppage").forward(request,response);
       }
//this line will print whatever is in error : Please fill all fields in form
<p class="text-center" style="color: green">${error}</p>
<form  method="post" action="">

 <label for="userid">Name:</label>
   <input type="text" name="username" required  /><br/>
<label for="passid">Email:</label>
<input type="text" name="email"  required />
<br/>
<input type="submit"  value="Signup"/>

</form>

I wish did fix the issue. You can use the HTML element to show a link on the webpage.
code :
<a href="http://stackoverflow.com">A link to stackoverflow.com</a>
<style>
    body {
        font-size: 150%;
    }
</style>

it fixes the issue I'd like to response to a url request with a hardcoded but dynamic html response. , One way is just to forward the response in your servlet:
code :
getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("mypage.html").forward(request, response);

hop of those help? If you insist of showing an alert to the user as a result of this POST operation, you should consider doing the redirect in javascript as well:
code :
    out.println("<script type=\"text/javascript\">");
    out.println("alert('User or password incorrect, please try again');");
    out.println("window.location = 'login.jsp';");
    out.println("</script>");

this one helps. Your button submits the form so you need to stop that by returning the false to the button's click handler or change the button's type from submit to button.
code :
function declineFunction() {
  alert("You must accept the policy agreement to continue");
  return false;
}
<form action="index.php" method="get">
  <input name="answer" type="submit" value="Decline" onclick="return declineFunction()" id="privacyDecline">
</form>
