this one helps. Without assigning a reference to your variable (be it a newly created one, or be it some existing reference that say a method returns to you) you can do exactly nothing (productive, you can use such nulls of course to have the compiler throw error messages at you, or worse, run into exceptions at runtime).
Like any Whatever theThing; is just a declaration. It tells the compiler that there is a variable that should be used to hold references to the given type. But initially, that thing is simply null.

To fix the issue you can do After the DLL is loaded into the memory space of your process, there should be no difference in performance compared to if the same code had been included in your EXE project instead.
In fact, you will probably see a performance gain over the long run by having common code in a dedicated place. If you tend to put common code into your main projects, you are likely to end up with substantial duplication of code, leading to both maintenance headaches and ultimately a larger memory footprint for your more complex applications).

Hope that helps With the first example, you defined an instance method hello_o on class Object, and called it from Object, which is an instance of Class class, which inherits Object class, so it worked.
With your second example, you defined an instance method hello_a of class A, and tried to call it from A, which is an instance of Class class, which does not inherit A class, so it failed.

I wish this help you If you instantiate an inherited class, also its base object gets instantiated. This is polymorphism. I think you should read through Virtual Functions C++ FAQ.
If an instance of class B is a member of class A, how can class B call a method of class A when a button in class B is p

this will help Your immediate objective is to invoke update on an instance of Controller within the actionPerformed method of an anonymously implemented ActionListener within ControlPanelOne's constructor. ControlPanelOne is composed within the constructor of an instance of Controller. Effectively, you need a circular reference from Controller to ControlPanelOne and visa versa.
Here's a straight forward approach. You can check out the minimally worked out project here.
code :
public class Controller {

    private Model m; //class Model not shown
    private Viewer v; //class Viewer not shown
    private JFrame frame;
    private ControlPanelOne cpo;
    private ControlPanelTwo cpt; //class ControlPanelTwo not shown

    public Controller() {
        m = new Model();
        v = new Viewer();
        frame = new JFrame();
        frame.setLayeredPane(null); // Do something

        cpo = new ControlPanelOne(this); // Supply self to the instance of ControlPanelOne
        cpt = new ControlPanelTwo();

        frame.add(cpo.getPanel());
        frame.add(cpt.getPanel());
    }

    public void update() {
        m.update();
        v.update();
    }
}
public class ControlPanelOne {

    private JPanel panel;
    private JButton button;

    public ControlPanelOne(final Controller controller){
        panel = new JPanel();
        button = new JButton("press me");
        panel.add(button);
        button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
            public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                //do some stuff;

                controller.update();

            }
        });
    }

    public Component getPanel() {
        return null;
    }
}

hop of those help? Type is a superinterface of Class. You won't generally need to use it unless you're doing reflection with generic types.
As an example, we can get the type of a field using Field.getType():
code :
Class<?> c =
    String.class.getField("CASE_INSENSITIVE_ORDER")
        .getType();
Type t =
    String.class.getField("CASE_INSENSITIVE_ORDER")
        .getGenericType();
ParameterizedType pt = (ParameterizedType) t;
pt.getRawType(); // interface java.util.Comparator
pt.getActualTypeArguments(); // [class java.lang.String]
