seems to work fine Portainer allows you to specify an encrypted password from the command line for the admin account. You need to generate the hash value for password.
For example, this is the hash value of password - $$2y$$05$$arC5e4UbRPxfR68jaFnAAe1aL7C1U03pqfyQh49/9lB9lqFxLfBqS
code :
version: '3.3'
 services:
   portainer:
    image: portainer/portainer
    volumes:
     - /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock
     - ./portainer/portainer_data:/data
    command: --admin-password "$$2y$$05$$arC5e4UbRPxfR68jaFnAAe1aL7C1U03pqfyQh49/9lB9lqFxLfBqS"
    ports:
     - "9000:9000"

Any of those help You can find individual container and execute the command in that container. Docker compose is streaming your logs, because of this it does not provide you an interactive shell.
As example lets say you have this compose file,
code :
version: '3'

services:
  nats:
    image: nats-streaming
  mongo:
    image: mongo

docker-compose exec mongo sh
docker-compose exec nats sh

will be helpful for those in need docker-compose can use a config file from stdin using -f - (Example: cat config.yml | docker-compose -f - up) , You can use the special device /dev/stdin, as in:
code :
cat config.yml | docker-compose -f docker-compose.yml -f /dev/stdin up

should help you out Need help making docker compose run my container without ability to log into it in production. I've tried to achieve this by overriding compose file stdin and tty settings but failed ... many times.
code :
docker exec -it my_prod_container bash

fixed the issue. Will look into that further In https://github.com/docker/compose/issues/3352 endzyme suggests using the docker command for doing this. I created a tiny bash function I have in my bash profile based on his suggestion:
