How to open a file, replace some strings, and save updates to the same file?

Hope this helps I am trying to loop through all CSV files in a directory, do a find/replace, and save the results to the same file (same name). It seems like this should be easy, but I seem to be missing something here. Here is the code that I'm working with. , You need to open the file using 'r+' instead of 'w'. See below:
code :
import glob
path = 'C:\\Users\\ryans\\OneDrive\\Desktop\\downloads\\Products\\*.csv'
for fname in glob.glob(path):
    print(str(fname))
    with open(str(fname), "r+") as f:
        newText = f.read().replace('|', ',').replace(' ', '')
        f.write(newText)

Does that help Well, just use file_get_contents() and file_put_contents() like below and you'll not need any temp files:
code :
<?php

//open file and get data
$data = file_get_contents("path/to/sourcefile.php");

// do tag replacements or whatever you want
$data = str_replace("<tag1>", "<tag2>", $data);

//save it back:
file_put_contents("path/to/destinationfile.php", $data);

?>

Any of those help I have the following code where I am reading a file and replacing any occurences of "*.tar.gz" file with the new file name provided. Everything works fine and I can see the replaced changes in the console however I am not being able to write a new file with all the changes. , You forgot to write your modified lines into the new file:
code :
def modifyFile(newFileName: String, sourceFilePath: String, targetFilePath:String) {
  scala.tools.nsc.io.File(targetFilePath).printlnAll(
    Source.fromFile(sourceFilePath).getLines().map {
       _.replaceAll(".+\\.tar\\.gz", newFileName.concat(".tar.gz"))
    }.toSeq:_*)
}

should help you out Other answers give you better solutions to your problem. Mine concentrates on explaining why your code didn't work.
The core of your code is here:
code :
$old++;
$new++;

for (my $i = 0; $i < 42; $i++) {
    while(<IN>) {
        $_ =~ s/$old/$new/g;
        print OUT $_;
    }
}
my $old    = 40960;
my $change = 1024;

while (<IN>) {
    # Easier way to write your loop
    for my $i ( 1 .. 42 ) {
        my $new = $old + $change;
        # Use \b to mark word boundaries
        s/\b$old\b/$new/g;
        $old++;
    }
    # Print each output line only once
    print OUT $_;
}

it fixes the issue The CreateItemFromTemplate method of the Application class creates a new Microsoft Outlook item from an Outlook template (.oft) and returns the new item. The second argument specifies the folder in which the item is to be created. If this argument is omitted, the default folder for the item type will be used (Draft for mail items).
code :
Sub CreateFromTemplate2()
  Dim MyItem As Outlook.MailItem
  Set MyItem = Application.CreateItemFromTemplate("C:\statusrep.oft", _
  Application.Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderDrafts))
  MyItem.Save
  ' or
  MyItem.SaveAs Environ("HOMEPATH") & "\My Documents\statusrep.oft", OlSaveAsType.olTemplate
End Sub
