wish of those help It's because the

element is a block element and the casual text is inline. So you have to force

to behave like an inline element, which by the way, means no floating.
Here's the code:

I think the issue was by ths following , The only solution that comes in mind is use more TDs, one for the image, one for the text.

This might help you This fiddle demonstrates the issue: http://jsfiddle.net/wrYsx/ , Try adding an empty element to the td.
code :
<span class="vertical_aligner"></span>

.vertical_aligner {
    vertical-align: middle;
    height: 100%;
    display: inline-block;
}

help you fix your problem Use the flex and sizing helper classes to make the link a flex parent with 2 children - the content you want on the left, and the content on the right. Use .justify-content-between, .align-items-center to separate the content so the arrow is on the right and centered vertically.
code :
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/font-awesome/4.7.0/css/font-awesome.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<link href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/twitter-bootstrap/4.0.0-alpha.6/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<ul class="list-group flex-column">
  <li class="list-group-item py-2 d-flex">
    <a href="#" class="d-flex w-100 justify-content-between align-items-center">
      <span>
      <img src="https://placehold.it/40x40" height="40" class="mr-4">
      <span>Text Here</span>
      </span>
      <i class="fa fa-angle-right ml-auto" aria-hidden="true"></i>
    </a>
  </li>
</ul>
