Spring 2.5 managed servlets: howto?

Spring 2.5 managed servlets: howto?

To fix this issue You can also define your servlets directly in the Spring application context. You'll need a "proxy" servlet registered in web.xml and delegating to the servlet instance which is configured as bean in the applicationContext.xml. Proxy servlet is configured with the name of the target servlet bean, it discovers this bean via WebApplicationContextUtils.getRequiredWebApplicationContext().getBean(...) and delegates all the processing to the target servlet. In this case an instance of your servlet is completely managed by Spring.

To fix this issue You're going to have a boostrap problem since log4j has to be initialized before Spring. Whether you're using a custom configuration or Log4j's standard initializer, it has to be up before application context is.
Now, you could in theory make your custom appenders "lazily" initialize themselves (either via approach you've suggested above or by making appenders themselves "semi" singletons - e.g. appender class has a static instance field which gets populated by afterPropertiesSet() method; that way you can create appender itself as bean within Spring) but it seems somewhat messy and inconsistent.

I wish this helpful for you You can't share the context of one servlet with another, but you can declare a second context which acts as the parent context of the DispatcherServlet. Any beans which you need to access from both servlets should go into this new context.
See section 3.13.4 of the Spring docs for how to set this up.

wish helps you That's not possible, no. The view scope is tied to a specific JSF view, which is no means of in a plain HTTP servlet request. Note that you can't access concrete request scoped beans during a plain HTTP servlet request either, they would always return null.
The session scope is the best what you can get. You can just remove the attribute from the session scope once you're finished with it in the servlet.
code :
session.removeAttribute("somename");

hop of those help? Imho you should try to move everything to Spring. In my experience when it is to mixed up there are a lot of problems. Is there a particular reason why you cannot yet set up a spring managed transaction management using:
code :
<!-- Transaction Management -->
    <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="txManager" proxy-target-class="true"/>
    <bean id="txManager" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate4.HibernateTransactionManager">
        <property name="sessionFactory" ref="sessionFactory" />
    </bean>

This might help you The missing javax.servlet.AsyncListener class is part of Servlet Spec 3.0, which makes sense because Jetty 9.0.x follows that spec. Perhaps you are using an older version of Tomcat? Tomcat versions prior to 7.0.x do not implement this, in which case you have a problem.
