will help you You're calling wait and notifyAll on obj, but you're synchronizing on this (because you've got synchronized methods).
In order to wait or notify, you need to "own" the monitor first. Unsynchronize the methods, and synchronize on obj instead:

This might help you I know the mechanism of wait() and notify() of thread, but I am unable to understand that why wait() and notify() methods should be in synchronized block? Is this mandatory? ,
Is synchronized mandatory while invoking wait/notify: Yes

I wish this help you
Threads can use Objects to transmit messages from one thread to another, and these methods allow that to happen. A Thread calls wait() to say "I am waiting for a message to be sent to this object." Another thread can call notify() to say "I am sending a message to that object." The Object is therefore a conduit through which threads communicate without explicitly referencing each other. If the methods were in the Thread class, then two threads would need to have references to one another to communicate. Instead, all communicating threads just need to agree to use some specific shared resource.

I hope this helps . The threads are started sequentially, and in theory thread 1 would execute before thread 2, although it's not guaranteed (pretty sure it'll be consistent in this simple case though, as there are no real or simulated aleatory delays).
This is why when thread 2 is started slightly before, it has a chance to wait on a lock that gets notified (by thread 1) subsequently, instead of waiting forever for a lock that's already been notified once (hence, no printing).

like below fixes the issue You need to notify the object that is being waited on, not the thread that is waiting.
In your case the object waited on is an instance of an anonymous inner class, which is problematic because you cannot easily obtain a reference to it in order to notify it. You could solve this by extending Thread directly:
code :
Thread thread1 = new Thread() {
    public void run() {
        System.out.println("thread1 is started, waiting for notify()");

        synchronized (this) {
            try {
            } catch (InterruptedException e) {

        System.out.println("waiting is over");

may help you . If ThreadB gets through its synchronized block before ThreadA does, then ThreadA will block indefinitely on the call to wait. It won't somehow be notified that the other thread has already completed.
The problem is that you're trying to use wait and notify in ways that they are not designed to be used. Usually, wait and notify are used to have one thread wait until some condition is true, and then to have another thread signal that the condition may have become true. For example, they're often used as follows:
