Web Services vs Persistent Sockets

Web Services vs Persistent Sockets

This might help you This is a very generic question, and are multiple issues you raise explicitly, and many more issue correlated of which you may be or may not be aware.
One issue is HTTP vs. other protocols (or message exchange patterns, to be accurate). HTTP is request-response and many communication patterns don't fit a request response paradigm. A persisted connection allows for message oriented protocols that are more flexible, like a typical full duplex chat exchange pattern.

hop of those help? According to your code, the only time you'll even reach the statements dealing with sending the second request is when the server closes the output stream (your input stream) after receiving/responding to the first request.
The reason for that is that your code that is supposed to read only the first response
code :
while((amountRead = isr_reader.read(streamBuf)) > 0) {
  receivedData.append(streamBuf, 0, amountRead);

Any of those help Looks like the same question was asked on PerlMonks. The responses there point in the right direction, but the issue seems to be that you want one cached connection per session, not one cached connection per session per httpd thread/process. You might have to resort to a separate proxy process to get the behaviour you want.

like below fixes the issue It would be possible but you would need to use a different hostname/ip address for the second persistent connection.
Reason being, if the host you are connecting to is exactly the same (host and port), it will return the existing persistent connection if it exists, rather than creating a new one.
code :
spprintf(&hashkey, 0, "pfsockopen__%s:%ld", host, port);

Hope this helps There are two types of socket connections, stream based (like TCP) and datagram based (like UDP).
Even an open TCP connection is merely just a entry in the routing table of each machine on the path from source to target. An open connection does not consume CPU power by itself, only the packets sent do.

To fix the issue you can do To receive an inbound connection through a NAT, a port must be opened on the NAT and mapped to the IP address of the target PC. If uPNP is enabled on the NAT, the port can be opened and mapped programmably by the target app, otherwise the NAT admin has to open the port.
The other option is to make an outbound connection instead. It does not have to be on an HTTP port (unless the NAT is locked down by the admin), though that is the most common port used as most NATs/firewalls allow outbound connections to port 80 to allow web browser traffic. The receiving server does not have to be an actual HTTP server.
