may help you . The problem is that SQL Server is trying to validate the code before it runs it. To show that, try putting one of your commands in EXEC(). Try putting a GO after the sp_addlinkedserver command.

will help you you have to actually specify database and table. There're not top 5 rows on server, only in specific tables:

wish of those help If you can run sp_addlinkedserver, then you most likely already have the permissions needed to gain access to the other database.
If you have rights to run sp_addlinkedserver, then sp_addlinkedsrvlogin would require you to know the password of "AlternativeLogin" or it has no password, ergo you don't need a linked server

fixed the issue. Will look into that further I tried to insert values from one server to another server and I got the error: , I got it. It worked fine
