this will help Using Dropbox to maintain several files and its associated metadata when those files are historized in a VCS is always a bit tricky because of potential corruption issue (if one of those metadata part of the repository isn't correctly synchronized, you can end up with a non_working repo)

hop of those help? If you get data in file with permanently changed name and (possibly) changeable data, you can:
Store data-file under version-control (mercurial is OK) replace old file with new every time hg addremove -s nnn (Check Manual hg help addremove) will detect possible rename and include new file in history of old

help you fix your problem The tutorial you are refer which is Scheduled Backups tool. It' a build-in tool on the Scheduled Backups page in the TFS Administration console.
It' the whole database back up not only referring to source control, but also work items, pull requests, builds, test plans or anything else that the service offers.
