wish helps you I want to hash a string of length up-to 30. What will be the best idea to do that if time is my concern. The function will be called over 100 million times. currently I am using the following code,
code :
static UInt64 CalculateHash(string read)
    UInt64 hashedValue = 3074457345618258791ul;
    for(int i=0; i<read.Length; i++)
        hashedValue += read[i];
        hashedValue *= 3074457345618258799ul;
    return hashedValue;

I hope this helps you . You will probably get better results using a simple hash like FNV32-1A.
Complex instructions like crc32, clmul, aes, etc... have higher throughputs, but they can also have higher latencies. By themselves, they won't necessarily give you a better distribution either.

wish help you to fix your issue NOTE: As per the comments, you get a 25-50x speed-up by compiling with optimizations. Do that, first. Then, if it's still too slow, see below.
Fast hash function for IPv4/6 addresses

Fast hash function for IPv4/6 addresses

To fix the issue you can do By the way, I am assuming you meant 4Gb, not 4Mb for the 32-bit index size above. Also, that assumes that you only need one byte per entry (max of 255 hits)
It is hard to know which hash will be better without knowing the distribution of addresses. If they are more or less randomly spread over the address space (and, yes, I know that most IPv6 addresses are not allocated), just pick a few bits of the address and use that.
