WCF MaxReceivedMessageSize property not taking

hop of those help? I just ran into this issue. I found that my custom binding did not get applied at all. Then I used name = "" in binding tag. Then everything started working with the new settings. This is due to .NET 4.0 comes with default binding/endpoint/behavior configurations. These default settings have name = "". I just modified the default binding itself. The reason for my custom binding(named) did not get applied is due to the value for the name in tag. It should follow .

Does that help Yes - it might. The reason WCF keeps this limit low (64K) by default is this: imagine your server is busy responding to requests, say dozens or hundreds, and they all require the maximum message size.
Potentially, your server could have to allocate dozens or hundreds of message buffers at the same time - if you have 100 users and each requests 64K, that's 6.4 MByte - but if you have 200 users and each requests 5 MB - that's a gigabyte of RAM in the server - just for the message buffers, for one service.

This might help you It needs to be set on the client as they are receiving the large message.
Example:
code :
<binding
   name="YourNameHere"
   maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647">
</binding>

will help you You need to define a binding configuration for the binding you want to use and then you need to define your services (on the server-side) and clients (on the client side) to use that binding and binding configuration:
code :
<system.serviceModel>
   <bindings>
      <!-- pick whichever binding you want .... -->
      <basicHttpBinding>
         <!-- binding configuration with a name -->
         <binding name="ExtendedMaxSize"
             maxBufferSize="999999" maxReceivedMessageSize="999999" />
      </basicHttpBinding>
  </bindings>
  <services>
    <service name="Yournamespace.YourServiceClass" behaviorConfiguration="...">
      <!-- define endpoint with your binding and the name of the binding configuration
           that you have defined just above -->
      <endpoint address=""
                binding="basicHttpBinding"
                bindingConfiguration="ExtendedMaxSize"
                contract="Yournamespace.IYourServiceContract" />
    </service>
  </services>

like below fixes the issue You are not targeting the correct binding. You should be mentioning it by name.
Example of this:
code :
<basicHttpBinding>
  <binding name="Binding1" maxReceivedMessageSize = "1000000">
    <security mode="None" />
  </binding>
</basicHttpBinding>
