How does _mm_mwait work?

it fixes the issue Every time a CPU on a multicore chip tries to write a specific memory address, all other CPUs, which have this particular memory address in their caches, have to be notified of that change. This notification could be used to implement the wakeup from MWAIT on modern CPUs independent of them having a single or separate memory busses.

This might help you What you want is not possible in one single query. The filter you do on the parent and on the child will be combined to an "AND" filter operation.
To get only the parents for which you have tasks, choose the query type "Work Items and Direct Links" and in the child section add a filter on "assigned to = @me" and select the option "Only return items that have specified links".

around this issue You are correct with your assumption that a local work-size with {4, 4} will yield 16 work-items per work-group. Here is an image showing this.
Additional info (in case you need it): The choice of dimension is strongly dependent on your actual problem, but also on memory access patterns and optimiziation potential. However most problems can be solved using 1-dimensional work-sizes (even when working with 2-dimensional data), especially if there is no involvement of neighboring values when processing elements.

How to add extra work items in order to make global work size a multiple of the local work size

How to add extra work items in order to make global work size a multiple of the local work size

fixed the issue. Will look into that further It is a standard approach to round-up the global work size to a multiple of local work size. In this case, we have to add bound checks inside the kernel to make sure only those work items perform computation which fall inside the valid data range. It can be done by specifying the actual data size as a kernel parameter and comparing it with the global index of work item. An example kernel will look like this:
code :
__kernel void example_kernel(__global int* input, __global int* output, int dataSize)
{
    int index = get_global_id(0);

    if (index < dataSize)
    {
        /*
        rest of the kernel...
        */
    }
}

I wish did fix the issue. When having this kind of trouble, the first thing you should do is check the output of ':map '.
In this case there was a later mapping. Remapping my setup made things work as expected.
