How good is Oracle Universal Connection Pool (UCP)

How good is Oracle Universal Connection Pool (UCP)

it should still fix some issue I evaluated UCP 11.2.0.1 as a replacement for our legacy connection pool and I cannot recommend it:
it does not fully support jdk 6 / ojdbc6.jar. For example the use of statement caching and jmx-support does not work with java 6 and throws exceptions. no internal statement cache - it relies on the jdbc driver's statement cache (setPoolable()) I submitted both issues to oracle, they confirmed it and will probably fix it when oracle 12.0 will be released. But even that's not for sure. Too few releases (2 releases in 3 years), too less community support. Not Open-Source Hardly extensible. Only a few callbacks with an horrible interface design.

it helps some times Try using a different connection pool implementation and check if you see the same error.

To fix the issue you can do Oracle DRCP does not interfere with any other connections methods you are currently using, it only adds another option to connect to the DRCP connection pool.
This was verified when the DBA decided to give it a try and turn on the DRCP connection pool in our Oracle database. We were able to connect to the new DRCP connection pool with our new application X and our other applications continued to work without any modification necessary.

it should still fix some issue This typically happens when you have more than one ojdbc*.jar in your classpath.
In your question you clearly state you have verified that there was no duplicate but there must be one. If you load ojdbc8 from Maven then you need to make sure that it's not manually added from the local filesystem.

I did finally figure out a solution to my issue. Instead of using OracleDataSource as the connection factory :

will be helpful for those in need Yes your understanding is correct. With the replay driver, Application Continuity can replay in-flight work so that an outage is invisible to the application and the application can continue, hence the name of the feature. The only thing that's visible from the application is a slight delay on the JDBC call that hit the outage. What's also visible is an increase in memory usage on the JDBC side because the driver maintains a queue of calls. What happens under the covers is that, upon outage, your physical JDBC connection will be replaced by a brand new one and the replay driver will replay its queue of calls.
Now there could be cases where replay fails. For example replay will fail if the data has changed. Replay will also be disabled if you have multiple transactions within a "request". A "request" starts when a connection is borrowed from the pool and ends when it's returned back to the pool. Typically a "request" matches a servlet execution. If within this request you have more than one "commit" then replay will be disabled at runtime and the replay driver will stop queuing. Also note that auto-commit must be disabled.
