Best practices for logging in django project

hop of those help? In Django, like in any other Python application, I'd use the standard library's logging module and call logging.debug, logging.info etc as appropriate to each message. Most of the seven questions you asked have noting to do with your Q's title -- "ask one question per question" is one key Stack Overflow mantra! Just open many questions for your many questions and let's keep this one focused on logging, OK?-)

wish of those help I take the approach that you should only catch an exception if you plan on doing something about it at that spot. Logging the exception is not doing anything. My recommendation is to not log in your library. Simply let the exception bubble-up normally since it sounds like you are not trying to do anything special within your library.

hope this fix your issue Ultimately, if you want logging/tracing in your app, then there is no escaping having that code in your source.
In theory you could use aspect oriented programming (AOP) tools such as PostSharp to hook in the logging/tracing calls, but regards calling tracing in methods e.g.
code :
public void Foo()
{
    Trace.WriteLine("About to call web service");

    Trace.WriteLine("Updating database with data");
}
[Conditional("DEBUG")]
public void Trace(string message)
{
    Trace.WriteLine(message);
}

Hope that helps This is an opinion and style question. I think that that models validation is an absolute requirement, the last defence line against mistakes. Once models validations are in place, you can go on with forms, client and API facing validation.
The specific model validation, fields or model methods (or custom managers etc) is a choice of style, and what works for the specific app, but keep models validation. It's the one place to catch it all. You may have many forms, many APIs, but one point where data goes into the DB.
